Ephesians 4:22-24

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Have you ever done something you later realized was not how you wished to behave, or said something and wondered where it came from? As Paul alluded, we can’t understand our behavior, words, and thoughts until we understand the heart and mind. And we can’t change any of the above, until we change the heart and mind.

Unfortunately, many of us act as if that changing occurs once we take on the title of Christian. Hopefully there is change that occurs in that moment, but it is not enough. In fact, it will never be enough. We must “re-new” ourselves every day, literally making our hearts and minds new, over and over again.

What are you doing to renew your heart, mind, and soul every day? How are you becoming “like God in true righteousness and holiness?”

When you are finished with your time of reflection, close out this time with this prayer.

Oh God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servants. For Your sake, O Lord, look with favor on this dry and thirsty land. Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of Your great mercy. O Lord, listen! Oh Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For Your sake, O my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your name. (Daniel 9:17-19)
