1 John 4:16-18

16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

We have one common fear, the unknown.  If we could only know exactly how everything works, if we could only know what the future holds, if we could only know everything! Then, oh then, we wouldn’t be afraid!  Or would we?  It seems the more we know, the more frightened we are.

Have you ever read the side effects of a new medication?  We know what good the medicine will do but we fear what else it might do.  “Caution….living is hazardous to your health.”  Knowing does not cast out fear, unless it is knowing the love of God.  Truth is, we can’t know all, but we can know what is necessary, the love of God.  The ONE who does know everything loves even me!

May I quit worshipping knowledge and worship you, God. The one thing I do know and believe is--you love me and that is enough for me.  Amen.
