1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
If you are new to this devotional resource, you may not know the reason why we call this First 15. I know the rhythm and routines of our lives are varied and unique. My wife Stephanie and I are morning people. Our 14 year old daughter loves the summer months when she can wake up just in time for lunch.
You can read this at anytime of the day, but we do encourage you to use it to give the first 15 minutes of your day to God. We do that because we believe that faithfulness in the first things has the power to change everything. Said differently, the way you start something often has great influence on every additional step you take.
I hope that helps you wrap your heart and mind around the power of Psalm 100. It is an affirmation of God’s goodness and God’s faithfulness, which “continues through all generations.” It’s a solid foundation on which to build a life and a great place to start when you think about our challenge of claiming the joy that is available in Christ.
Verse 4 speaks of entering, “his gates with thanksgiving” and you might find yourself wondering, “which gate is that?”
Here is what I want to encourage you to embrace today. What if you saw your front door as your gate? What if you left your house today with the mindset that I want to enter into every moment of this new day with thanksgiving and praise because God is faithful and God is good?
Again, that’s a foundation you can build a life on, and it’s a great place to start.
Holy and Loving God, you have given me the gift of a brand new day and while I do not know what today will bring, I know that your grace has made this new day possible for me. Make me an instrument of that grace as I enter into all this day will bring. You are good. You are faithful, and I believe that you are worthy of my best today. AMEN.
